Northern Lights Tour from Henningsvær
Start your evening in Henningsvær and head out into the Lofoten night in search of the Northern Lights.
There’s no fixed route once we leave the village. Your local guide watches the weather and cloud cover throughout the evening and heads wherever gives us the best available conditions.
You don’t need to be a photographer to enjoy this. Watch the sky, and when conditions allow, your guide will take professional photos of you under the Northern Lights, included with your tour. If you’d rather use your own camera or phone, your guide can help with that too.
Between stops, travel warm and comfortable in our four-wheel-drive Mercedes V-Class, with a panoramic glass roof and hot drinks along the way.

From Henningsvær Into the Lofoten Night
The evening begins in Henningsvær, but where it goes from there depends on the night.
Your guide takes you out through the surrounding Lofoten landscape, watching the sky and the conditions as the evening develops. Some nights that means a short drive. Others take us further, depending on where the cloud cover breaks.
The destination isn’t decided before we leave. It’s decided by what’s actually happening in the sky.
No Fixed Route
Lofoten’s weather can change quickly, and cloud cover isn’t the same everywhere at once.
Your guide studies the conditions before we leave Henningsvær, then keeps reading the sky, the wind and the roads once we’re out. Some nights the right conditions are close by. Others take more patience and more driving.
Safety always comes before finishing a predetermined route. If conditions call for a different plan, the plan changes.
Be There for the Moment
Photography is a genuine RAW Lofoten strength, but this isn’t a specialist photography tour. The experience comes first.
You’re welcome to simply watch the sky. When conditions allow, your guide takes professional photos of you under the Northern Lights, included with your tour.
If you’d rather use your own camera or phone, our guides have extensive photography experience and can help with settings, focus and composition as conditions change.
Whether you love photography or couldn’t care less about it, you’re equally welcome here.

Northern Lights Tour FAQ
How long is the tour?
The trip lasts approximately 4 hours. It may run a little longer if we get really good aurora towards the end.
How much does the Northern Lights Tour from Henningsvær cost?
The shared Northern Lights Tour from Henningsvær costs NOK 1,770 per person.
Where does the tour start?
No, and we won’t pretend otherwise. The aurora is nature, not a show. Your guide reads the conditions and heads to wherever gives us the best chance that evening.
Are the Northern Lights guaranteed?
No. You’re welcome to simply watch the sky. When conditions allow, your guide takes professional photos of you, included with the tour.
Do I need a camera?
Dress for standing outside in Arctic winter conditions: warm layers, winter footwear, a hat and gloves. If you bring a camera, a tripod is useful.
What should I bring?
Can you help me photograph the Northern Lights?
Yes. Bring your camera or phone and your guide can help with settings, focus and composition as the light changes.
Are professional guide photos included?
Yes. When conditions allow, your guide takes professional photos of you during the tour, included at no extra cost.
Why isn't there a fixed route?
Lofoten’s weather changes quickly, and cloud cover isn’t the same everywhere. Sticking to one planned route would mean missing better conditions elsewhere, so the guide adapts as the evening develops.
Can I book the Northern Lights Tour from Henningsvær as a private tour?
Yes. A private Northern Lights Chase for 1–7 people costs NOK 11,900 for the whole group and lasts approximately 4–4.5 hours. Our Extended Northern Lights Chase gives you approximately 6 hours and costs NOK 13,900 for the whole group, also for 1–7 people.
If you need a tailor made tour see our Private Tours in Lofoten page.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We follow the weather and road conditions closely and adjust the route when conditions change. If RAW Lofoten has to cancel because it’s unsafe or unreasonable to operate, you receive a full refund according to our Booking Conditions.
